Ever felt like you don’t belong? How motivated are you when you’re in that state? Not very. Your primary instinct at that point is to find a place where you do belong. Not belonging is really unpleasant. It’s significant why 51% of employees are actively looking for another job. And when they’re looking for a job, they’re not attending to the company’s purpose. For those of you old enough to understand this reference, they’re looking for their “Cheers” pub.

Neuroscience tells us we can last for about 10 minutes of focus until the need for avoiding the unpleasant or the draw for searching for something new and better take hold. (I’ll talk more about this in this session.) A lack of belonging in your organization ensures a search for someplace better.
